Hear My "Passionate" KWMR Interview Anytime!

For those of you who didn’t catch the live show in July, a podcast of my appearance on Ellen Shehadeh’s View Point on KWMR Point Reyes Station is now available on my Web site.

As I mentioned earlier, Ellen talks with people who “have a passion for what they do” and I really enjoyed the chance to talk about my passions: Japan, erotica, food and my new novel, Amorous Woman.

So pour yourself a cup of green tea—or a glass of chilled sake—and join me in a little passion!

Wow, that was a very interesting interview.

I'm so amazed when anyone can articulate the American/foreigner's experience in Japan. It's so much about picking up on non-verbal, subtle nuances rather than clear, overt signals. I always found it hard to put into words the way in which I just "got" what was going on. You managed it so well!

What struck me while you were talking and then remembering how right on your book was, is that the erotic experience in Japan is made so intense by the fact that it has to be so hidden on the surface.

I loved this about being in Japan. Having this whole proper, controlled, formal, repressed way of acting in public while in private things are quite different. It creates this whole mystery and exotic vibe around love and sex in Japan that is quite the turn-on.

I need to read your book again. :)

Yes, MB, you are absolutely right about the utter sexiness of the polite facade concealing a very different secret life. Actually, I think you should write something about your experiences, essay, story, novel, whatever. You've been so eloquent in expressing your experiences to me, I know I'd be first in line to read your work!
