Can Erotica Change the World?
While I was on vacation, I had the pleasure to be guest blogger at the Romance Writers of America, New York City chapter's blog, Blogging in the Big Apple. My post, "The Erotic Revolution," is a very intimate, stripped-down-to-the-panties confession of my "mission" in my erotica writing. Grandiose and almost tongue-in-cheek as it might seem--I aim for such lofty goals as a healing of the age-old split between body and mind in Western culture--I am also very serious about the power of erotic writing to help us understand the parts of ourselves that have traditionally been deemed forbidden.
Is it possible to change the world one dirty story at a time?
I invite you all to join the cause with me to find out the answer....

Excellent essay. And I can say without a doubt, your stories reach the mark. You create alive, real, vibrant characters that make the sex sexier.

I don't know, but I think it's fun to keep trying.
(Unsurprisingly) magnificent post, Donna! I'm so glad you pointed it out here, since I hadn't known about it and am/was delighted to read it. Also delighted to see those particular words/insights of yours reaching such audiences—congrats on the guest post!

Thanks, Craig, and you got it, the fun is in the trying. Can't think of a better way to make a difference and I'm glad you're on the team ;-).
And thank you, Emerald! I consider your stories a big can(n)on in our ongoing battle :-).
Always great to see you spreading your insightful and important ideas around!
Thank you, Jeremy. My cookies tend to be scooped up more eagerly, but I still keep at it with the ideas, too!
Hi Donna, a friend just recommended your blog to me, and I'll have to thank her later. Great writing, intelligent philosophy - love it. You're a lady for my blog roll if ever I read one.
Hey Demure,
Thank you so much for stopping by. Let's exchange blog roll links!
Wonderful (though too short, haha) essay, Donna. It's funny you mentioning that in "literature," sex has to be portrayed in a dismal light for it to not be considered "trash" (I remember an acquaintance calling the Clan of the Cave Bear books trash because of the sex scenes). And not that there isn't bad sex (unfortunately there's a lot of it) - but I always wanted characters I cared about to at least have some pleasure once in awhile. Guess we'll all just have to take care of that, huh?

That seems like such a charming, sensitive observation, Robin. Thanks for sharing.
I'm with Emerald, Robin. Excellent sentiment, and we're all trying to remedy the situation, aren't we? But yes, isn't is SO sad that sex is seen as trash? Sad and weird.
We've got to do something about this! Write a dirty story today :-).
